Zelphia (Gilbert) Reynolds

November 7, 1917 — June 5, 2014

Zelphia (Gilbert) Reynolds, age 96, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, June 5, 2014. She was born November 7, 1917 in Union County where she lived until her family was displaced by the building of Norris Dam. She was of the Baptist faith and attended Cedar Grove Baptist Church of Union County most of her life. She is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Albert H. Reynolds, her parents, Lafette and Neice (Hill) Gilbert, sisters, Virgie, Ella, Nellie, Shirley, Sally, Maggie and a brother, Bill. She is survived by daughters Gail Lay and husband Jakie, of Knoxville, and Jane Bayliffe and husband Jason, of Greensboro, North Carolina; grandchildren Angela Lay Thomas and Anthony Lay, of Knoxville, and special friends: Janice Ellis, Marie Mynatt and Kay Breeden. The family would like to give a special thanks to the third floor nursing staff at Beverly Park Place nurses Joy, Annette, and Mary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Hope Christian School in Corryton, Tennessee. Funeral Service will be 7 pm Saturday at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel with Pastor Ralph Waggoner officiating. Friends and family will meet at 12:45 pm Sunday at Greenwood Cemetery for 1 pm interment with Pastor Mark Large. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Saturday at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel.
