William Ray Ellis

September 14, 1940 — December 5, 2022

William Ray Ellis, age 82 of Knoxville, passed away peacefully at his home on December 5th, 2022. Ray was a native of Clarksville and a graduate of both Austin Peay State University and the University of Tennessee. For over 30 years, he taught Office Occupations at Tennessee Technology Center. He retired in 2000 to a life of watching UT Athletics, keeping a perfect lawn with his beloved John Deere mower, and spending time with his family. He was a generous, loving father to his two children and his five grandchildren, who were his greatest joy. Ray is preceded in death by parents Lucille and Noble Ellis, sister Joyce Roland (Jimmy). He is survived by children Daniel Ellis (Tracy), Tammy Humphrey (Scott), grandchildren Jordan and Lucas Ellis, Mason, Gavin, and Jackson Humphrey, twin sister Faye Elliott (Doris), sister Sue Stainback (Wayne), brother Ronnie Ellis (Debbie), former wife and mother of his children Kathleen Ellis, several nieces and nephews, special friends Bobbie and Charlie Lovell and H.T. Moyers. Special thanks to the caring staff at UT Hospice. Family and friends will meet at 1:45 p.m. Saturday, December 10th, 2022, at Fort Sumter Community Cemetery for a 2:00 p.m. graveside service.
