William "Paul" Phelps age 99, of Halls, passed away Thursday, February 13th, 2025. He was a member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church and Randy Macon's Sunday School class.
Paul was preceded in death by wife, Dorothy Jean Phelps, daughter, Caroline Sue Henry, parents, Willie Edward Phelps and Birtie Florance Phelps (Davis), sisters, Martha F. Hale, Mary F. Bender, Hazel Edwina Bayless and brother Roy E. Phelps.
He is survived by daughter, Judy A. Justice and her husband, H. Bruce Justice, grandchildren: Scott Bandy (Cindy), Mark Justice (Deborah), Jodi Mackiewicz (Thad), Valerie Carroll (Steve) and Samantha Thomason (Michael); 14 great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter.
As a member of our greatest generation, Paul was a proud veteran of World War I1. He joined the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne in September 1943. Paul served in England, Holland, France, Germany, Belgium and Austria as well as fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. Paul enjoyed hunting in the Big South Fork and fishing on Norris Lake with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Wallace Memorial Capital Project Fund in Paul's name. Our appreciation goes out to Ben Atchley Veterans Home, as well as the doctors and nurses for Paul’s special care. The family will receive friends Monday, February 17, 2025, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Mynatt Funeral Home, Powell Chapel, followed by a 7:00 pm funeral service officiated by rev. Kent Williams. Family and friends will meet Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 10:00 am at Mynatt Funeral Home, Powell Chapel and travel in procession to Fort Sumter Community Cemetery for an 11:00 am graveside.
