William E. Johnson

February 18, 1936 - January 27, 2025

William E. Johnson, Age 88, born on February 18, 1936 in Knoxville, Tennessee, to Edward F. and Mary H. Johnson, entered his eternal rest on Monday, January 27, 2025. Married Virginia M. Johnson (deceased November 6, 2021) on August 12, 1955. He had one son, Gary W. Johnson on May 10, 1958. He graduated from the University of Tennessee as a commissioned officer in the United Sates Air Force. While serving in Vietnam, he received the distinguished flying cross for his actions under enemy fire. After retiring from a 20 year career in the Air Force, he went on to work at the department of Defense in Oak Ridge, Tennessee followed by the Nevada Nuclear Test Site and the Las Vegas Public Works Department. After retiring, he returned home to his hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee. 

He is survived by second wife, Judy Beatty; brother, Wylie Johnson; sister in law, Sandy Johnson; son, Gary Johnson (KarenGaye M. Johnson); grandsons, Christopher Johnson (Amy), Benjamin Johnson (Hannah), Stephen Johnson (Kacie), Michael Johnson (Adrianne); great-grandchildren, Cameron Johnson, Grace Johnson, Madeline Johnson, Lila Belle Johnson, Makenna Johnson, Oliver Johnson and Gabriel Johnson.

The family will have a call at convenience Sunday, February 2, 2025 from 9:00am - 5:00pm at Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City Chapel. Family and friends will meet at Greenwood cemetery Monday, February 3, 2025 at 10:45am for a 11:00am graveside service.
