William Harold Denney, age 72, was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 17, 2024. He passed peacefully at home with his family by his side.
Harold was born in Dickson, Tennessee. He is the son of William Dudley and Sue Tucker Denney. Harold grew up on a dairy farm outside of Vanleer, TN with his sister, Linda, and his many cousins. There he learned a strong work ethic that served him well in his life. After graduating from Charlotte High School in 1970, Harold went on to Tennessee Tech University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. He then moved to Knoxville to work for TVA where he had a rewarding career and met many, many lifelong friends. In 1975, Harold married Debra Presson from Dickson and they made Knoxville their home for almost 50 years.
Harold was known for his generosity, his sense of humor, and his ability to fix any problem big or small. He was actively involved in his grandsons’ lives, attending sporting events, volunteering at school, and being their biggest cheerleader and supporter. Harold was a true woodcraftsman. He built many beautiful pieces of furniture and generously gifted many people with his beautiful work.
Harold had many talents and many interests. He was an avid Vols fan, loved working on his old car and motorcycle, building stereos and speakers, and doting on his beloved Airedale terriers. Harold cherished his many friendships and was affectionately known as “H. D.”, “Hound Dog” and “Houndess” to many of them.
Jesus’s light shined through Harold in the way he raised his family, his love and acceptance of all people, and his generosity.
Harold is preceded in death by his father, William Dudley Denney. He is survived by his wife, Debby; his son, Reed; and daughter, Christy (John); grandsons, Preston and Clint Fisher; mother, Sue Denney; sister, Linda Greer; nephews, Lee (Kathy) Greer and Eric (Dana) Greer; great nephew, Tucker Greer; and great nieces, Abby, Kate, and Ashley Greer; sister-in-law, Janet (Kerry) Stamper; and brothers-in-law Doug (Melissa) Presson and Larry (Linda) Shovan and many more beloved nieces and nephews.
