William (Bill) James Captain age 82 of Knoxville passed away after a short illness at Tennova Residential Hospice Center. He is survived by his loving wife Sherry and his 3 daughters Kathi and husband Greg Bradley of Charlotte, NC, Demetra VanWyk of Nevada City, CA, and Angelia Captain Townsend of Knoxville, TN. His four grandchildren Dallas Townsend, Emilie Townsend, Szilas VanWyk, and Will Bradley. His brothers Victor Captain and Gus Kapetanoplous his sisters Koula and Elena. His like a son and close friend Bobby “Perfect” Ford, his esteemed first cousins Gus Captain, George John Captain, John A. Captain, George Sam Captain, and George A. Captain and a host of nieces and nephews all close to his heart.
Bill came to this country in 1954 from Corinth, Greece. He was owner and operator of Sam and Andy’s, Tennessean, Time Out Delis, Zorbas, and Vic & Bill’s. He was an innovative man who was hardworking and dedicated to his family with a giving heart to all who knew him. He never met a stranger, and never let anyone go hungry. He was an icon of K-town for so many reasons, always willing to lend a hand. He will be held in hearts and memories of many. Trisagion will be held Sunday at 7pm at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel. Funeral Service will be held 11am Monday St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 4070 Kingston Pike Knoxville, TN 37919, Rev. Fr. Anthony Stratis officiating. Family and friends will then proceed to Greenwood Cemetery for 1pm interment. Family will receive friends 5-7pm Sunday Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel.
