William Allen Shannon, age 93, a resident of Knoxville was born on February 24th, 1924 in Springfield, TN and passed away on April 12th, 2017, following a brief illness. Mr. Shannon was a WWII veteran who served in the U.S Navy. He retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He was a member of the Beaver Ridge Methodist Church, Knoxville for many years. He was a lifetime member of the Lions Club and received several distinguished awards recognizing his work. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of sixty-six years Jean McFaul Shannon, his parents William C. and Jennie Ruth Shannon, his brother Robert Jett Shannon and his sister Martha Shannon Barnes. Left to cherish his memory is his son Dr. David Shannon and wife Nancy; daughter Melinda Davis and husband Alan. He also leaves behind his two grandchildren Emily Davis and Jonathan Shannon as well as one great-grandchild Nella Kurstyn Lopez-Davis, several nieces and nephews and very special friend Ruby Dayton. Family will receive friends Wednesday April 19th, 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Beaver Ridge United Methodist Church, with service to follow. Rev Larry Dial will be officiating. Family and friends will meet at 9:15 am Thursday, April 20th, 2017 at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, Gov. John Sevier Hwy, for interment service at 9:30 am.
