Wilburn Ray West, Sr., age 77, of Heiskell, went Home to be with the Lord Friday, December 9, 2016. Member of Raccoon Valley Church of God. He worked at White Stores for 15 years and then retired from Y-12 as a security guard after 25 years of service. He was an avid gardener, and also enjoyed cutting wood. He loved history, reading, and was a Civil War and steam engine buff. He loved Mark Twain and had a comparable witty sense of humor. He was a dedicated family man, loving husband and father. Preceded in death by parents, Obie and Myrtle West. Survived by wife of 58 years, Phyllis Wolfenbarger West; son, Wilburn West, Jr. and wife Belinda; daughter, Dolores Phipps and husband Steve; grandchildren, Jody and Chris Layman; brother, Jay Lewis and wife Margaret; sister, Obie Lee Rhyne and husband Kenneth; brother, Dan West and wife Brenda; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to say a special thank you to UT Hospice and Professional Case Management Nursing. The family will receive friends 5:00 – 7:00 pm Sunday at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel with funeral service to follow, Rev. Don Fox officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Family and friends will meet 10:45 am Monday at Mt. Harmony Cemetery, Raccoon Valley Road, Heiskell for 11:00 am interment. Nephews will be honored to serve as pallbearers.
