William Wayne Lett of Knoxville, born April 27, 1939, died suddenly at his home February 8, 2014. He was a member of Sharon Baptist Church; a graduate of Halls High School; and served his country in the U.S. Army from January 8, 1962 to January 8, 1964. Wayne was well known for his excellent restoration of antique cars, receiving many trophies and recognition at antique car events. He was owner-operator of Lett’s Garage in Halls Crossroads for many years. Wayne was always there to help others, friends or strangers. He was humble, honest and loyal, and he will be forever missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Pauline Huff Lett; brother, James E. Lett; sister, Eleanor C . Lett. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Shannon Childress Lett; daughters, Terri and Tina Lett; sisters, Imogene “Gene” Marsh, Marian French and husband Jack; brother, Larry Lett; sister-in-law, Wanda B. Lett; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Linda Underwood; brother-in-law, Eddie Childress, all of Knoxville; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends. Funeral service 8:00 pm Thursday at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel with Dr. James Robertson, Rev. Dennis Blazer and Rev. Mark McCoig officiating. Family and friends will meet 10:15 am Friday at the funeral home and proceed to Sharon Baptist Cemetery for 11:00 am interment. Pallbearers, Greg and Jeff Lett, Gary Marsh, Jeff Sharp, Wes McConkey, Justin, James and John Mitchell, Chad and Jake Davis. Honorary pallbearers, Ron Beeler, Don Brantley, Charlie Lovell, Sherman Mitchell, Terry Miller, Don McConkey, Paul Underwood, George Robbins, Ken Johnson, Bob Percell, Gordon Treece, Bob Ferguson, Phil Fluir and Buford Barnard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sharon Baptist Church, 7916 Pedigo Road, Knoxville, TN 37938 or Sertoma Center, 1400 E. Fifth Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37917. The family will receive friends 5:00 – 8:00 pm Thursday at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel.
