Wanda Wilmouth Waring

Wanda Joyce Jo Anna Wilmouth Waring passed away at her home early Monday morning 28 December 2020, after a brief illness. Her daughter and grandson were by her side. Born in Knoxville, Tennessee on 9 March 1939. She was 81 and a member of New Friendship Missionary Baptist Church Luttrell, TN. Wanda was a graduate of Horace Maynard High School class of 1956. She was the Salutatorian of her class, Editor of the “Echo” yearbook and FFA (Future Farmers of America) Sweetheart. She was very proud to say she was from Union County Tennessee! Wanda worked for the Department of Revenue for the State of Tennessee in Knoxville for over ten years and worked for the Internal Revenue Service, where she later retired. Wanda also loved the University of Tennessee. During the mid-1960’s she was the secretary for the Vol Fan Club and attended many games. She was a lover of history and authored two books concerning Union Country ancestral information, which are currently located in the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. under the name of Wanda Hickle (previous married name). She was also a significant contributor to the Ancestral Guide to the Wilmouth Family and several other family ancestry books. Wanda was a founding member of the Union County Historical Society, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Bonnie Kate Chapter of Knoxville, and a member of the First Families of Tennessee through her direct descendance from Robert Monroe who settled Tennessee prior to statehood, 1 June 1796. Wanda was the matriarch of her family. There are no words to express how her spirit and kindness will be missed. She is proceeded in death by her husband John Waring, her parents Allen Lee and Iva Lee (Kitts) Wilmouth, brother Reverend Gillis Wilmouth and wife Edna, brother Harold Wilmouth and wife Marie. She is survived in death by her daughter Teresa Dawn Underwood-Calandra and her grandson Kyle Allen Calandra of Knoxville. Her stepsons, John Waring, and his wife Barbara (Cape Cod, Massachusetts), Jim Waring and his wife Pat (Nashville, TN), and Tom Waring (Maggie Valley, North Carolina). Her grandchildren, Kyle Calandra and wife Anna, Mark Waring, Sarah Waring, Elizabeth Cash and husband Matt, Jennifer Waring, Jennifer Griffin, Katherine Eldred and husband Jesse, Brian Jackson, and wife Rhea. She had six great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. She will also be missed by her many nieces; Gillisa Wilmouth and her children Jeserae Good, Chelsea Khan and husband Jamil, Janet Wilmouth, Lisa Holloway and husband Chuck, Patricia Tompkins and husband William, Terra Faulkner, and nephew Jimmy Wilmouth and wife Pam, as well as her many great nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. Her dearest friends Rita Smallwood, Kate Ray, Jeanie Wilmouth, Mary Baumgartner, Mary Whitson, and Susan Tullier will miss her rambunctious behavior and captivating laugh. Services will be postponed until after COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted. She will be cremated and inurned at her home. Once final arrangements have been determined, they will be posted in the News Sentinel and on the Mynatt Funeral Home (Halls) website https://www.mynattfh.com Reverend James E. Whitson will conduct the memorial service and her Celebration of Life. Honorary Pallbearers are Kyle Calandra, Mark Waring, Jimmy Wilmouth, Jamil Khan, Ted Greene, Kevin Calandra, Brian Jackson, Rick Woody, and Tom Hendrix. Mom was very passionate about animals, especially cats.
