Wanda Ward Childress, age 71, of Knoxville, went to be with her Heavenly Father on September 20, 2018 after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer. She graduated from Fulton High School and worked at Kmart on Broadway for many years. She was a dedicated member of the Gideon's Auxiliary. Wanda had a steadfast and unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, her personal Savior. She was a loving wife and her greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her parents William "Bill" Ward and Mary "Betsy" Ward; sister Juanita Selvedge and brother Melvin Ward.
She leaves behind devoted husband of 43 years Gary Childress; son Gary Childress Jr. (Audrey); daughter Christy Goranflo (Hank); 5 loving grandchildren she enjoyed spoiling Carter Childress, Jack Goranflo, Cooper Childress, Grant Goranflo and Caroline Childress; sisters Kathy Cox (Jerry), Shirley Trott (Jerry) and Dorothy Myers (Eddie); brother Ronald Ward (Candy); and many nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends 11:00am-1:00pm Saturday at Salem Baptist Church with funeral service to follow, Dr. John Holland and Rev. Mike Vincent officiating.
