Walter “Mr. Ray” Collier – Born May 29, 1913 – 100 years and 17 days, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 15, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.
Formerly a resident of New Johnsonville, TN, he was a member of Trace Creek Baptist Church where he served as an honorary deacon for more than 30 years. He was currently a member of Dante Baptist Church. He was a man of many talents, an expert machinist, self employed locksmith, carpenter, plumber, electrician and all around handyman.
Preceded in death by son, James Ray Collier, grandson Kenneth Collier, and great grandson Daniel Wade Lane. Sons-in-law Chuck Beason, Bob Williams and Bill Shannon. Nephew Frank Moneyhun. He is survived by his loving wife of 79 years, Kathleen (Boggs) Collier. Daughters: Ruth (Marion) Lane of New Johnsonville, TN, Nell Beason and Martha Shannon of Knoxville, TN, Phyllis Williams of Heiskell, TN., and son, John (Kathy) Collier of Chicago, Ill. 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren. Nephews Robert (Dot) Collier, Edgar (Lucy) Moneyhun, nieces and large extended family. Special thanks to Caris Health Services and caregivers Jessica and Alyssa.
Funeral service is 8:00 pm, Monday at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel with Rev. Phillip Murphy and Rev. David Bumgardner and officiating. Family and friends will meet at funeral home 10:15 am Tuesday and proceed to Greenwood Cemetery for an interment service at 11:00 am. Family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 pm Monday at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel.
