Walter Halinkowski, age 70, formerly of Aurora, CO. passed away January 13, 2017 after a two year battle with lung cancer. Walter was born in Germany and immigrated with his family at the age of five, ultimately settling in Chicago, IL. He attended Taft High School in Chicago prior to enlisting in the USAF in 1967. During his 12 year military career as a programmer/analyst he met and married the former Caren Jean Clayton of Norman, OK. They eventually moved to Colorado where they hoped to permanently settle and raise their two children. He was employed as a computer programmer by various Denver metro businesses including Information Handling Services where he retired in 2000. He and his wife moved to Knoxville in 2002.
Besides computers, Walter’s two favorite hobbies were home remodeling and travel. There were a few repair jobs around home too ambitious for him to attempt, and his wife loved to talk of the financial advantages of having such a handyman available. He and Caren also traveled as much as possible and his greatest thrill was being able to visit Australia in 1997.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Jon Walter Halinkowski. He is survived by his wife of 45 years; his daughter, Jennifer Marie Halinkowski; as well as a brother, Anatoly, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Interment will be at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the American Cancer Society or American Lung Association.
