W.C. (Walter) Thornton, age 99, of Knoxville, passed away Friday, January 28, 2022. He was a lifelong member of Marble City Baptist Church where he served in many capacities. He was also retired from the Knox County School System as a Maintenance Supervisor. Preceded in death by first wife, Aileen Thornton; second wife, Ina Whaley Thornton; special friend, Evelyn Ousley; parents; 2 brothers; 2 sisters. Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, Alvin and Joy Thornton; daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Larry Heyer; grandchildren, Daniel Cook, Theresa Reiff, Matthew Thornton and Alycia Thornton; 6 great-grandchildren. Family will receive friends from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at Marble City Baptist Church followed by a funeral service at 1:30 pm with Rev. Dennis Blazer and Rev. Jeff Hunter officiating. Interment service will follow at Highland Memorial Park at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
