Wallace Eugene Humphries of Knoxville, TN peacefully went to be with his Lord on October 5, 2024, at his home, surrounded by family.

Wally was 88 years old. He was preceded in death by his father, James Henry Humphrey, and his mother, Marion (Terrell) Humphrey. He was the last of five children from that union and outlived his brothers, Johnny Lee Humphrey (and wife Jenny) and James Humphrey (and wife Nellie), sisters, Beatrice Humphrey Harris (and husband Charles) and Lucille (Dickey) Humphrey Herron (and husband Johnnie).

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Betty L. (Cart) Humphries, originally from Sutton, West Virginia. He is survived by his three children: Sabrina (Humphries) Almarode and husband Frankie, Rocky Humphries and wife Beth, and Deborah Humphries and partner Rick Matthews.

Wally and Betty boasted of having seven grandchildren: Dawn, Chris, Matt, Samantha, Brad, Brandon, and Josh. They also enjoy the love of their nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is survived by his nieces Diane Smallwood and Donna Butcher whom he loved greatly, as they are close to his own children’s age.

Wally was a member of Plaza Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, Virginia for many years where he enjoyed his role of Chairman of the Deacon Board. Once relocated to Knoxville, Tennessee he joined Beaver Dam Baptist Church. Wally was a devout Christian who often spent time studying his Bible.

Wally was proud of his career in the U.S. Navy, retiring after 25 years of service as Chief Boatswains Mate and working as a supervisor at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. His career sent him to travel to many places including Rhode Island, Illinois, Hawaii, Virginia, Spain, and even the South Pole. After retirement, Wally spent time driving a school bus for special needs children. He also enjoyed restoring old cars, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.
