Voyd Ailor Beason, age 85, of Knoxville, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Tennova North Medical Center. Voyd was born August 24, 1936 in Sharps Chapel, Tennessee to the late William and Zana Beason. Voyd will be celebrating his 86th birthday with his Lord. He attended Salem Baptist Church and was retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad. Voyd was one of the kindest men who ever lived, and never said a harsh word about anyone. Voyd was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Von Beason of Maryville, TN; Lee Beason of Sharps Chapel, TN; sisters, Dona Keck and Mona Rogers, both of Knoxville, TN, Ruth Shaffner of Maynardville, TN; stepdaughter, Donna Lane Phillips and Stepson, Doug Grugin, both of Knoxville. Voyd is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Ruth Grugin Beason; stepson, Rodney (Lisa) Grugin; stepdaughter in law, Vicki Grugin; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday, August 25, 2022 with a funeral service to follow at 7:00 PM at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel with Reverend Allen James and Reverend John Holland of Salem Baptist Church to officiate. Family and friends will meet by 10:45 AM Friday, August 26, 2022 at Fort Sumpter Community Cemetery for an 11:00 AM graveside service.
