Garrett, Von Henry, age 96, of Knoxville, passed away on Wednesday November 13, 2013 at Fort Sanders Hospital. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church for 55 years and served as a Deacon and served on various building and maintenance committees. He was the last living child born to Robert Henry Garrett and Lula Foust Garrett, of Knoxville. His siblings were Myrtle Cox, Adrian Garrett, Ulas Garrett, Berlen Garrett, Beatrice Garrett, and Verlen Garrett. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Rose Lee Howerton Garrett, in March 1996. He is survived by his daughter, Lois Garrett Williams (David) of Dawsonville, GA; and son, Von Ray Garrett (Sharon) of Chattanooga, TN; 6 grandchildren, Anjie Brannon (Greg) of Chattanooga, TN, Cindy Newman (Paul) of Chattanooga, TN, Leah Casey (Jonathan) of Cookeville, TN, Brandy Shadwick (Keith) of Chattanooga, TN, Marty Williams (Mia) of Cumming, GA, and Scott Williams (Amy) of Cumming, GA; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was employed by Rohm & Haas Chemical Co. from 1943 – 1976 and has been retired 33 years. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the caregivers and staff of Elmcroft (Halls) and Wellspring Senior Living (Powell) and to his many friends, neighbors and relatives for their calls, cards, and visits. Funeral service 8pm Friday at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel, Rev. John Holland officiating. Friends and family will gather 10:45am Saturday at Clapps Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery for 11am interment service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Salem Baptist Church Building Fund, 8201 Hill Rd., Knoxville, TN 37938. Family will receive friends 5pm-8pm Friday at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel.
