OAKS, TRULA MAE (STOOKSBURY), Knoxville, TN, age 88 passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 2 at Beverly Park Place after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Harold (Chigger) Oaks Sr., her parents Rube and Cleo Stooksbury, her siblings, her great grandson Cody Adkins and his dad Kenny Adkins. She was a member of Black Oak Ridge Baptist Church and was very appreciative of the Hope Team for their many prayers and cards. Trula, a beautiful woman (many thought of her as the prettiest woman in Fountain City), was proud of her Cherokee descent. She was very creative as evidenced by her career as a hairdresser, her crocheting, her sewing, her quilting and her decorating skills. She taught quilting to her granddaughter Amanda and her great granddaughter Kayla. They each made a quilt in their preteens. She taught her children the love of reading by reading to them at naptime. She spent many hours the last few years reading Gone with the Wind. Trula is survived by her children whom she recognized to the very end: Carolyn Oaks, Patricia Burch (Jimmy), and Dr. Butch (Abby) Oaks. She is also survived by her grandchildren Lisa Metler Adkins, Adam Lovett, Jason Metler, Joshua Lovett, Amanda (Oaks) Hughes, Emily Oaks, and Avery Oaks; great grandchildren Kayla Adkins, Amber Lovett, Corey Adkins, Landyn Metler, Joshua Lovett Jr., Millie Anna Lovett, Harrison Hughes, and Benjamin Lovett; and special friend Donna Day. The family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm on Friday, October 5 at Mynatt Funeral Home in Fountain City with service to follow officiated by Dr. David Lovett. Family and friends will meet 9:30 am on Saturday, October 6 at the funeral home and proceed to Lynnhurst Cemetery for 10 am graveside service. Grandchildren will be pall bearers. The family would like to extend thanks to the third-floor nursing staff, headed by Joy Epps, of Beverly Park Place. The family especially thanks CNAs April and Lucretia for their dedicated, loving care of Trula Mae for 8 years.
