It is with sadness that the family of Thomas M. Barker, age 71, of Powell announces his passing after a short battle with cancer on Tuesday, December 28, 2021. Tom was a design engineer with close to 50 years experience with TVA as well as several other firms. He was still working part-time for APTIM at the time of his death. Tom was a “Mr. Fix It Man”, who knew how to fix pretty much anything: old TVs, radios, computers, guitars, toys, cars, etc. He never backed down from a challenge, and he worked tirelessly until it was fixed. Tom loved The Beatles, and once played in a band who played on the Cas Walker show. A U. S. Navy veteran, great husband, father, and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 47 years Gayle, son Greg, daughter-in-law Susan, two much loved grandchildren, Emily and Thomas, brother Dennis (wife Dawn), sisters-in-law Brenda Vandever (husband Joe), and Vicky Ratcliff (husband Greg), and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents; Thomas G. and Mary, and sister Karen Barker, brothers-in-law Bobby and Tony Karnes. We will miss his wit and dry sense of humor. Family and friends will meet 1:45 p.m. Friday, January 14, 2022 at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery (John Sevier) for a 2:00 p.m. committal service Rev. Steve Hill officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Sacred Ground Hospice House 1120 Dry Gap Pike Knoxville, Tn. 37918 or the American Cancer Society P. O. Box 42040 Oklahoma City, OK 73123-3000. The family asks due to Covid, masks and social distancing are required to attend the service.
