Thomas Charles Scott

July 23, 1956 — September 21, 2022

After overcoming multiple obstacles with his health Thomas Charles Scott III passed away September 21, 2022. Thomas (Tom) met Pamela Smiddy (Pam) on Valentine's Day 1988 and the two married later that year. Tom was an amazing and wonderful husband; he and Pam have loved and supported each other through 34 years of marriage. Tom was a devoted and selfless father to his one and only daughter Tawny (Nikki) Scott (Jerome Hackett). He is preceded in death by father Thomas Charles Scott Jr., mother Mildred (Millie) Paige Scott, brother Cole Wingate Scott, and niece Brenna Pierson Tucker. Tom was born in San Diego, California, and lived in many places throughout his life before making Knoxville his residence in 1982. He graduated from Edward White High School in Jacksonville, FL and ITT Technical Institute. Tom loved cooking and worked in many local restaurants including: Chesapeake’s Seafood House, Ruby Tuesdays, and Copper Cellar. He participated in The National Rib Cook-Off 1983 in Cleveland, Ohio. After a weekend of round-the-clock smoking, cooking, and basting, he and his team from Calhoun’s were awarded the grand prize ribbon and title of “Best Ribs in America”. In 1995, Tom began his career at Swift Industrial Power. During his 20 years of service Tom came to love his job, his coworkers, and the Swift company where he touched the lives of everyone he met. He retired from Swift in 2015 and to this day he enjoys many strong relationships with those he worked with. Tom was extremely funny, hardworking, kind, and generous. He loved gardening, boating, being outside, and traveling. Being the child of a military man Tom moved many times as a child and as an adult he traveled all over the US and internationally to Saudi Arabia and Puerto Rico. He was quick-witted and often the life of the party. Tom was a very intelligent and curious man, as a young man he actually read an entire series of Encyclopedia Britannica cover to cover, just for fun. His loss has left an immeasurable hole in our hearts. Thomas is survived by wife Pam Scott, daughter Tawny (Nikki) Scott (Jerome Hackett), brother David Bronson Scott (Marliss Scott), sisters Jo Allison Scott and Kim Pierson (Richard Pierson), nephews Nathaniel, Matthew, Zachary and Nicholas Pierson, Christopher and Forrest Scott, nieces Allison Pierson and Lea Scott, special friends Caroline and Montana, and his fur children Jack, Millie and Sophie whom he was absolutely in love with. Extended family, Bo Smiddy, Stacy Cheek (Ricky), Stephanie Tomas (Diego), Eva Tomas, Eddie and Brandon Sheckels. Family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 28, 2022, with service to follow. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 a.m. Thursday, September 29, 2022, at Highland Memorial Cemetery on Southerland Ave. for an 11:00 a.m. interment.
