A letter that was written by Terry Sherrod’s grandson, Jessie. “For all who read this, my PaPaw was a great, loving, and caring man that cared for all of his sisters, brothers, son, grandson, granddaughter, and all of his friends and family. He took me his grandson, Jessie, to football practice and games, and even when he didn’t he came to watch me play. He taught me stuff and gave me pointers. He loved watching me play. He told me one day a while back he thought I was going to make it to the big league in football and told me how he played football and he said, “ I could have maybe made it to the college league, but we were not that wealthy growing up so me and Jimmy or John,” I can’t remember, but anyway one of the two maybe both he said, “me and Jimmy or John went and joined the Military.” He loved watching me, number 31, play and knock someone’s lights out. He taught me a lot of what I know about football. So, I know I’m going to do my best to do what he couldn’t do. I am gonna have fun and do my best for my PaPaw and I know he is still gonna watch me play and give me pointers, and now he can help me a lot. I will not forget about him, and will make sure I get to the big league for him. I won’t give up until I do. I will always wear number 31 for him, and knock the other teams lights out. And even though I won’t see him watching me from the stands I know he will be watching me from the best seat that has the best view, and that best seat and best view is Heaven with our family. I would do anything the get him back. I realize that I can’t get him back alive. It was his time and Jesus called him to join him and our family up there. I can see him at night talking to me and telling me stories. I wish I could see him walking the golden stairs to roads of pure gold. We will all miss the man that helped us through hard times and challenging parts of our lives, and now it’s time for us to return that favor. At least he is not in pain, but running the streets of gold as if he was a child. We all will miss the man whose name was Terry Glenn Sherrod, Sr. They say you don’t know what you’ve lost until you lose it. Now I understand what that means and I don’t want to lose someone again. I miss him a lot.” Written by the grandson, Jessie Sherrod.
