Sherman Anderson Morton

Sherman Anderson Morton, Sr. “Sammy” age 92 of Corryton went home Sunday, September 17, 2023.  He was a member of Fountain City United Methodist Church and the Christian Homebuilders Sunday School Class.  Sherman was employed by Y-12 as a machinist then a planner/estimator of over 38 years.  The greatest joy for him was taking crippled and burned children to the Shriners hospitals.  “Sammy” as he was known was an active Shrine Clown for 22 years.  He was a member of the Bright Hope Lodge 557 F & AM and a 32 degree mason.  He was a U. S. Air Force Veteran.  Sherman is survived by his wife of 69 ½ years, Elizabeth Smallman Morton; 3 sons, Sherman Jr. (Mary), Steve (Rhonda), and Ashley Morton; grandchildren, Kristen (Stephen) Weigel, Leah (Greer) Aiken, Sherman (Ashlyn) Morton III, Aaron (Rebecca) Morton, and Caleb Morton; great-grandchildren, Nick, Maddie, Walker, Bo, Blair, Carter Ann, Naomi, Noah and Harper; several nieces and nephews.  The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Fountain City United Methodist Church with a 7:00 p.m. Masonic service provided by the Bright Hope Lodge 557 F & AM followed by a “Celebration of Life Service” Rev. Don Hanshew officiating.  Family and friends will meet 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 22, 2023 at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City to leave in procession for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Tri County Honor Guard.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Christian Homebuilders Sunday School Class.  In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Fountain City United Methodist Church Music Department 212 Hotel Road Knoxville, Tn. 37918 or Shriners Children’s  110 Conn Terrace Lexington, Ky 40508.  Condolences may be left at www.mynattfh.com
