Searle, Sarah (Roach) - passed away August 23, 2024 at Tennova North Hospital in Knoxville. She was born in Knoxville on September 10, 1939. Sarah is preceded in death by her late husband William Freel Searle III, parents Ernest S. Roach and Mabel (Evans) Roach and brother, Ernest S. Roach, Jr. and sister, Louise Roach Hodges. Survivors are sister-in-law Gladys Roach, stepson David Searle and brother-in-law Ray Hodges and nieces and nephews who were very special to her.
She graduated from Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, TN. She later became a Professor of Music at UT Knoxville until her retirement. She was a lover of music, a talented pianist and vocalist, performing several operas and other musical events during her life. She loved beautiful art and surrounded herself with things that brought her heart joy. She cherished the several Pekinese dogs she raised during her life. She also loved history which led her on a search to track her heritage. She researched for hours on end which resulted in introducing her to extended family members. Sarah was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Knoxville and sang in the choir as long as her health allowed. She was a member and former President (2016-17) of the Ossoli Circle of WC, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, as well as several other organizations. Her circle of friends was very special to her.
A celebration of life will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Knoxville at 3p.m. on September 10th. Mynatt Funeral Home-Powell Chapel is honored to serve Sarah’s family and honor her final wishes. The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to the medical staff who attended to her and to her Primary Care Physician of many years, Dr. Amy Bentley.
