Samuel L. Johnson, Jr. age 76 of Knoxville, passed away peacefully Friday, December 1, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Sam retired from the Knoxville News Sentinel Circulation Department and Sam was a retired United Methodist minister from the Holston Conference where he pastored served several churches. Sam was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. Sam was an education music major at the University of Tennessee where he participated in many music events including a member of the Pride of the Southland Marching Band. Sam was an Eagle Scout. Member of the Phi Mu Alpha Fraternity. Preceded in death by parents; Frances and Samuel L. Johnson, Sr. Survivors; wife of 55 years; Linda Jo (Hackney) Johnson, son; Robert Johnson, granddaughter; Alexandria Johnson, cousin; Lynda (Charles) Scott, Brothers-in-laws; Tom Hackney and Kerry (Debbie) Hackney, niece; Laura (Emir) Hambo, and many friends. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel followed by a 7:00 p.m. funeral service Rev. Dennie Humphreys officiating. Family and friends will meet 10:45 a.m. Thursday, December 7, 2023 at Ft. Sumter Community Cemetery for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service Rev. Dennis Ford officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The University of Tennessee Music Department. Condolences may be left at www.mynattfh.com
