Samuel Cortland Baird

Samuel C. Baird age 72, of Knoxville peacefully departed from his earthly body to join his son in heaven on Tuesday, November 13, 2018. Born June 15, 1946, he was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar A. and Pauline H. Baird, Niece, Sheena Baird, very special friend, William “Bill” Tice and his beloved and only son, Linc S. Baird. A United States Army Veteran, Sam honorably served his Country during the Viet Nam War. Early in his career, he met Bill Tice and joined Tice Engineering, retiring after 30 dedicated years of employment as a skilled designer and machinist. He is survived by the mother of his son, Debra Zmolek Baird, Brother, Robert (Betty) Baird and nephew, Edgar Baird. Special thanks to the physician and nurses in the ICU Cardiovascular Unit at UT Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, November 18, 2018 at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel followed by a 4:00 p.m. Celebration of Life service Rev. Larry Woods officiating. This Celebration of Life service will be held in conjunction with Sam’s best friend, William “Bill” Tice, deceased May 4, 2018. (See William “Bill” A. Tice obituary.) Family and friends will meet 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at East Tennessee Veterans’ Cemetery for an 11:30 a.m. committal service with full military honors provided by the East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard.
