Ruth Electra Hawkins

HAWKINS, RUTH ELECTRA Went home to be with her Lord on October 10, 2013 at Holston Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was a member of Sharon Baptist Church and a devoted Christian lady. Ruth was born Jan 10, 1923 to James C. Hawkins and Hettie Kuykendall Hawkins. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Albert, Clyde and David Hawkins, and sister Margaret Smallwood. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Zella Hawkins, nieces and nephews Carolyn McKenzie, Elaine (John) Finley, Louise (Charlie) Benson, Barbara Cotterman, Phyllis Smallwood, Cindy (Jim) Johnson, Michael Hawkins and several great nieces and nephews along with many great-great nieces and nephews, and special friend, Vivian Henderlight. Ruth’s family and friends would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Autumn Care Assisted Living. Ruth was born in North Carolina, and moved to the Powell community as a young child. She graduated from Powell High School, Knoxville Business College and attended Carson-Newman College. In the 1950’s, Ruth moved to Columbus, Ohio where she worked for and retired from the Baptist Sunday School Board. After retirement, Ruth returned to the Powell community in Knoxville, TN. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 14, at 3:00 pm at Sharon Baptist Church, 7916 Pedigo Road with Dr. James Robertson and Rev. Dennis Blazier officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 - 3:00 at the church. Honorary pallbearers will be members of her Sunday School department. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made the Sharon Baptist Cemetery Fund.
