John Rodney Childress (Ronnie)-age 75 of Knoxville, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2017 surrounded by his devoted family at Fort Sanders Hospital. He loved his wife, the Braves, the Vols, golf, and his dog Max who was his companion and protector. Most of all he loved his family and exemplified what it means to be a loving Father, Papaw, Uncle, Brother-in-law, and friend. He was owner of Volunteer Dental Lab where he worked tirelessly alongside his wife and son for 30years. He was respected and loved by the Dental Professionals he worked for and served. For years he organized an annual golf trip to Waynesville Country Club for his colleagues and friends. He coached rec league sports for many years where he had a positive impact on the young men and women he coached. Many of his former players have continued to stay in touch with their “Coach”.
Preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth(Bootie) Childress, mother Mildred Wolfe, father and mother-in-law Tom and Margaret Garrison. He is survived by his 5 children, John Thomas(Johnny), Mike (Mikey), Scott and wife Wanda, Stacy Kent and husband Steve, Chris and wife Amanda. Grandchildren: Stephanie, Scottie and Carter Childress. Very special sisters-in-law, Mary Garrison and Gail Garrison Miller (Kenny). Brother-in-law Tom Garrison (Mildred). Many nieces and nephews. Service 7 pm, Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel, Rev. Perry Austin officiating. Family and friends will meet 1:45 pm Thursday at Lynnhurst Cemetery for interment service at 2. Pallbearers will be Mike Human, Jett Andrick, Scottie Childress, Keith Marks, Mike Chandler and Jamie Harris.
