Roger Astor Anderson peacefully passed away into heaven on December 29, 2023 in Hemet, California. When physically able, he attended Calvary Chapel Bible Fellowship Church in Temecula, CA.
He was born on November 2, 1930 in Knoxville, Tennessee to his parents, Thomas and Rella Anderson.
As a studious person, his brother Thales mentioned there was always a book in front of him. He went to Central High school where he was good in Mathematics and Science and after school worked at the local grocery store. He was a ‘Bobcat’ in high school, but turned into a ‘Volunteer’ when he was accepted to the University of Tennessee . There he excelled in the “solid” subjects and tutored the football players as well and worked for the local electric company doing surveys. In 1952 he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and after graduation received over 25 work proposals. He married Betty Sue Neubert and accepted a job offer from North American Aviation in Southern California and was off to the west coast. Fresh out of school at age 22 his first assignment was to design and help install the back seat on a F-100 “D”series fighter jet. His talents moved him quickly to advanced designs, and ultimately into the space race. Roger worked as an engineer for the aerospace industry for 40 years, culminating as the chief authority for the main engines of the space shuttle.
In his spare time, Roger enjoyed salmon fishing, boating, football games, and growing roses. Roger was a quiet yet thoughtful thinker…didn’t waste words - a trait that many engineers share.
Roger is preceded in passing by his parents, Thomas and Rella Anderson, his wife, Betty Sue (Neubert) Anderson, sister June (Anderson) Bennett, and brothers Rolland Anderson and Thales Anderson. Along with many nephews and nieces, Roger is survived by his children: Son David Richard Anderson and spouse Bonnie Anderson, their children, Wendy (Anderson) Smith and spouse Mike Smith and Cheryl (Anderson) Cummings and spouse Ben Cummings and their respective children Lilly Smith, Evan Smith and Dean Smith, Makayla Cummings and Caleb Cummings; Son Philip Michael Anderson; Daughter Patricia Lynn (Anderson) Hubby and spouse Lindsy Hubby and their children, Erica (Hubby) Dominguez and spouse Alexander Dominguez, Jacob Hubby, Sr. and spouse Katrina Hubby, Nikki (Hubby) Brown, and their respective children, Santiago Dominguez, Kiley Hubby, Jake Hubby,Jr., Samantha Hubby, Caden Brown, Memphis Brown, Titus Brown and Tatum Brown.
