Courtney, Robert George (Bob), age 90 of Corryton, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Tenova Hospice. Bob was a proud Veteran of WWII, serving in the European Theatre. He received the Silver Star and the Purple Heart, surviving Anzio, Salerno and Omaha Beach. He was an Army Ranger who fought tough to the very end. Bob served in the Volunteer State Honor Guard for 17 years. He loved and raised many different types of animals and always had a garden so he could give food to neighbors and friends. Preceded in death by his Mother, Clemmie and Father Matt Courtney, Sisters Elsie Mae Leamon, Helen Rogers, Elizabeth Owens, brothers Cecil and David Courtney. He leaves to cherish his memory: Wife of 69 years, Nellie W Courtney, daughter Joan Patterson of Knoxville; son, Mike Courtney of Knoxville, and step-daughter, Shirley Hoek of Jacksonville, Fl, Grandsons, Jason, Brent and Mike; special friends, Gary Caldwell and Wade Jones. The family would like to thank Elmcroft Assisted Living Memory Care in Halls for the love and care given to Mr. Courtney during his stay there. A special Thank You to "Pat" and to Tenova Hospice for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Kingwood School, Bean Station, TN www.kingwood_school.com. Pallbearers will be Wade Jones, Jack Butler, Johnny Beeler, Jackie Cole, Gary Caldwell, and Jason Summers. Family and friends will meet 9:15 AM Wednesday at Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery Gov. John Sevier for graveside service at 9:30 AM with Rev. Mark Kitts officiating. Military Honors will be presented by Volunteer Honor Guard. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Tuesday at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City.
