Robert G. Mayes, age 61, of Knoxville, passed away Monday, October 24, 2016 at Tennova Medical Center after a sudden illness. Bob was born August 19, 1955 in Brooklyn, NY to Leroy (Pete) and Marie Mayes. He was a retired newspaper editor and noted sports writer and was the recipient of numerous, coveted journalistic awards. His career at the Huntsville Times (Alabama), The Palatka News (Florida), and finally, as Managing Editor of The Mountain Press (Sevierville, TN), has left a lifetime of family, friends and acquaintances to mourn his passing. Bob is survived by his wife, Tammy Y. Mayes of Knoxville; daughter and family, Lindsey, David, Nico, Dimitri and Ari Monger of Hermitage; daughter and son-in-law, Ashley and Noah Ketler of Germantown; mother, Marie Mayes; brother and sister-in-law, John and Debbie Mayes of Huntsville; and a host of family and dear friends. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 am Saturday, November 12, 2016 at the Spry Funeral Home in Huntsville, Alabama with Reverend Mark Stinnett officiating. The family would like to thank the employees of the ICU at Tennova Regional in Knoxville for their excellent care of Bob and his family. The caring and loving you showed to us will be remembered and cherished forever.
