Robert Clarence (GranGran) Bales, age 70, of Corryton passed away Saturday, May 31, 2014 at home with his family singing around him. Robert was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of Fairview Baptist Church. He had led music in several churches in the area since the 1960’s. He was a retired small engines repairman with many friends made throughout the years. Robert loved yard sales and believed another man’s junk was his treasure. He was preceded in death by infant son, Kevin Scott, and parents, Clarence & Annalee Bales. He is survived by wife of 51 years, Deloris Beeler Bales; sons, Greg (Linda), Jason (Laura); daughter Robin (Robby) Carden; grandsons, Brad, Caleb, Charlie, John Samuel, Matthew and Garrett; granddaughters, Kendal and Ashley; Brother, Carroll (Pat) Bales and sister Dottie (Mike) Smith, and many friends. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Brad, Caleb, Matthew, and Charlie; also Carlton Bales, Robby Carden, Steve Weaver and Ernie McFall. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews Victor, Edward, David, Adam, Elijah, Gavin, Quentin, Jordan, and J.J., and also friends, Leonard Carden, and Bill Wilson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the music department of the Fairview Baptist Church. Funeral Service will be 8 PM Tuesday at Fairview Baptist Church in Corryton with Rev. Bryan Wright and Rev. James Robertson officiating. Friends and family will meet at 10:45 AM Wednesday for 11 AM graveside service at Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors. Rev. Charles Whitson will officiate graveside services. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday at the church. Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City Chapel in charge of arrangements.
