Robert Chilton Wildsmith, 74, died unexpectedly on Jan. 27, 2017, at North Knoxville Medical Center. He was born March 1, 1942, in Montgomery, Ala., and graduated in 1960 from Frazier High School in Memphis. He was a 1968 graduate of the University of Tennessee Knoxville and was employed for 41 years by the Knoxville Utilities Board, retiring in 2005 as an Information Services supervisor. He also served as an adjunct instructor for 15 years at State Technical Institute/Pellissippi State Community College.
He was a member of Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 35 years, where he served as an elder, taught Sunday school and was a 32-year member of the Kitchen Committee. He served on the board of directors for the Knoxville Utilities Board Retirees Association and on the board of directors for the Hidden Brook Homeowners Association. He was also a longtime volunteer with the Knoxville Tourism and Sports Corporation and was a Lady Vols basketball season ticket holder for more than two decades.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Leon and Margaret Jones Wildsmith; in-laws Bobby and Beth Tidwell; brother-in-law Robert Tidwell; and a daughter, Dawn Michelle Wildsmith.
He is survived by his wife of more than 51 years, Charlotte Tidwell Wildsmith; sons and daughters-in-law Steve and Tessa Wildsmith and Mike and Beth Wildsmith; brother and sister-in-law Don and Dana Wildsmith; brother David Wildsmith; sister-in-law Nancy Dobbins; grandchildren Taylor Voyles, Morgan Voyles, Josh Voyles, Ezra Wildsmith and Cullen Wildsmith; and great-grandchildren Ady’n Hamler and Arianna Stratton.
Receiving of friends will take place from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel, 4131 E. Emory Road, Knoxville, TN 37938, with service to follow. Family and friends will meet 10:45am Wednesday, Feb. 1, in the Garden of the Last Supper section of Oak Ridge Memorial Park, 1501 Bethel Valley Road, Oak Ridge, TN 37830, for 11am graveside service.
