After a brief and painless battle with lung cancer, Robert Berry, age 82, passed away peacefully
at his home in Knoxville, TN on Monday, July 8, 2019. Bob lived a life full of adventure: He
proudly served his country as part of the Army Security Agency stationed in Germany, he
worked as an engineer in quality control on the Apollo 11 mission to the moon, he wrote
policies and procedures for nuclear power plants, he raced Porsche 944 cars, and he ran several
marathons. Bob enjoyed jazz music and had a love for German culture. He was a lifelong
learner, always interested in new thoughts, ideas, and discoveries. He constantly kept up with
new technology and enjoyed seeing where the computer sciences were headed for the future.
He was a longstanding member of the Porsche Club of America, enjoying drive-outs and other
events held by the PCA alongside his wife, Debbie, and their friends. Above all, Bob was a loving
husband, a proud father, and a devoted grandfather. He was known affectionately by his
grandchildren as “BobBob”. He enjoyed vacationing with his family, and he had taken several
Caribbean cruises as well as traveled to spots like Chicago, Disney World, and the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL in recent years.
Bob is survived by his wife of 20 years, Debbie Cooper; daughter Brigette Berry of Stewart, FL; step-sons Jonathan Scoonover (Beth) and Timothy Scoonover (Ashley) of Moncks Corner, SC; grandchildren Caroline, Cooper and Micah Scoonover; and pets Abby Jo and Nico.
