New Market, TN – On October 16, 2021, Richard William Patterson departed this life to be with his heavenly Father. His wife and family were blessed to be with him during his last days, hours and final breaths here on earth. He peacefully left from his earthly home in New Market to be with Jesus in Heaven where he awaits the family and friends he left behind.
Richard (Dick) was born on Oct. 31, 1948, to Raymond and Margorie Patterson. He was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio. After he graduated high school, he joined the army during Vietnam and proudly served 2 years in Germany. After his discharge he went to work at General Motors in Toledo, Ohio, where 3 of his co-workers introduced him to the woman who was destined to become his wife, Sharron Kay Byrd (Patterson) of Adrian, Michigan. Those 3 coworkers eventually became his father-in-law and brothers-in-law. For 47+ years they lovingly supported each other in health. During the last several years of Dick’s life, she continued to love and care for him through his sickness and handicaps.
Richard and Sharron lived in Blissfield, MI, where they raised 3 children. He retired from GM in 1991 and they all moved to New Market where they established “Pine Peddlars.” They hand-crafted and painted crafts and furniture for wholesale and retail sale. In his mid and later years of life God became the center of his life. He never focused the negative situations in life but loved talking with family and friends about the goodness of God.
In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by 1 son and 2 daughters: Kevin (Tonya) Patterson, Angela (Greg) Grubaugh, and Rebecca (Mark) Williams, all of Tennessee. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren: Kevin (Melissa) Patterson, Jr, Katie (Chance) Roach, Krystie (Judd) Stapleton; Kylie Grubaugh, Kaleb Grubaugh, Noah and Isabella Williams; and 3 great-grandchildren Emma Patterson, Kayden Patterson, and Levi Stapleton. He is also survived by several step-grandchildren.
