Richard (Dick) Grant Smith, age 85, of Powell, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 5, 2013, after a long illness. A loving husband and father, Dick was preceded in death by his devoted wife Ellie. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church of Oak Ridge and especially enjoyed bible study every Wednesday. He also loved building and flying radio-controlled airplanes and going RV’ing with Ellie, who passed away 3 years ago. Dick was born and raised in New Jersey and graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1952 in mechanical engineering. He and Ellie moved to Cookeville in 1970, where they resided until 2004, when they moved to Clinton to be closer to their daughters. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Marilyn and Frank Burns of Mint Hill, NC, daughter and son-in-law Diane and Randy Smyth of Powell, and daughter and son-in-law Linda and Alan Kerekes of Oak Ridge. Dick is also survived by his grandchildren Matthew, Kelly, Katie, Heather, Eric, Ryan, and Stephen, and great-grandchildren Patrick, Neven, James, Annalies, Taylor, and Trevor. Service will be 3pm Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church, Oak Ridge, Pastor Bill Wagner officiating. Interment to follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Family will receive friends 2-3pm Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church Oak Ridge.
