Richard Edgar Corum, age 67, born October 12, 1945 and passed away January 5, 2013 at his childhood home in Union County, following a courageous battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis with his wife by his side. Preceded in death by parents, Edgar and Edna Booker Corum. Infant daughter, Mary Ruth Corum. Father and mother-in-law, Bill and Louise Richardson and nephew, Todd Richardson. Member of New Friendship Baptist Church. Graduate of Horace Maynard High School, class of 1963. Veteran of the United States Army. Past master of Corryton Lodge #321 F. & A.M. Served as county commissioner in Union County for 16 years and chairman of the Union County Solid Waste Committee. Retired from John Bouchard and Sons. Survived by wife of 40 years, Joy Richardson Corum. Daughter, Cherish Corum. Sister, Pam Corum Hembree and husband, Ron. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Rudy and Libby Richardson and Hal and Lorie Thurman. Nieces and nephews: Chad and Zach Hembree, Kenny and April Richardson and Lori Corum Beeler. Many aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends. Masonic service 8 pm Monday conducted by Corryton Lodge with funeral service to follow with Rev. Doug Muncey officiating at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel. Family and friends will meet at 1:45 pm Tuesday at Oakland Cemetery, Little Valley Rd., for interment at 2 pm with Rev. Leonard Goin officiating. Military Honors will be presented by Tri-County Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers: Mitchell and Randy Burnett, Joe Hickle, Tim Corum, Robert Dukes and Jeff Atkins. Honorary pallbearers: Bobby, Robert, Levi, David and E.J. Ray, Freddie Nicely, Darrell and Dwight Dyer, Jerry Townsend, Mark Massengile and Lloyd Beeler. The family will receive friends 6-8 pm Monday at Mynatt Funeral Home, Halls Chapel.
