Regina Jewel Hutcheson Merritt
On the evening of September 7, 2016, Regina passed away at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee after suffering complications from an unknown lung disease. She was being comforted by her family at the time of her passing. Regina was 54 years old.
Regina was born in Oliver Springs, Tennessee on April 3, 1962. She was the loving sister of Richard and the blessing to their parents, Richard and Mary Hutcheson.
Regina was raised in Wolf Valley in Anderson County and lived most of her wonderful and rewarding life in Norris, Tennessee. She was a fond student of Norris High School where she graduated in 1980. She and Jeff G. Merritt, a local young man from the Halls community, met at the New Pleasant Gap Missionary Baptist Church. Their place of worship and spiritual growth led them to give their lives to Christ, and appropriately, to each other on November 28, 1980. Their bond and commitment brought forth joy and fulfillment with their only child, Megan, who completed the essence of their loving family.
Her love of life and commitment to family and friends were also the base for community service in her beloved home town of Norris. An active member of the Norris Tree Commission and Keep Norris Beautiful, Regina had deeper convictions to make an everlasting impression on the preservation of the historic homes and properties. She founded and operated Restoration by Regina; and along with husband Jeff, they restored and carefully updated twenty eight of the original houses first constructed in the 1930s during the development of Norris Dam. The attention to detail left every new homeowner honored by the special care and contributions Regina had given their beautiful, historic home.
Regina is survived by her husband of 35 years, Jeff Merritt; her daughter Megan Ridenour and her husband Christopher with their children, Noah and Abigail of Andersonville, Tennessee. Regina is also survived by her loving parents, Richard and Mary Hutcheson, of Heiskell, Tennessee; and her brother, Richard Hutcheson and his wife, Brenda, of Heiskell, Tennessee.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 11, at 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM at New Pleasant Gap Missionary Baptist Church, 9019 Andersonville Pike, Powell, Tennessee. The Celebration of Life service will follow shortly thereafter with Rev. Alan Giles officiating. Family and friends will gather together on Monday, September 12, at 10:45 AM at Hutchison Cemetery on Byrams Fork Road, Andersonville, Tennessee for the 11:00 AMinternment.
A special thanks is given on behalf of the family to the many who shared their support during these final days; to those who had her in their prayers; and to the friends and family who continue to receive blessings from the life that Regina lived.
