Rebecca "Pauline" (Houser) Smith

Rebecca “Pauline” (Houser) Smith, age 90, passed away at 1:10 am on Friday, July 1, 2016 after a brief illness. Pauline was born on August 15, 1925 to Charles Berry and Stella Pauline (Nichols) Houser. She loved to read her Bible and was an active Member of Milan Baptist Church and former Sunday School Teacher. She attended Union County Senior Citizens Center where she enjoyed playing Scrabble. She had traveled throughout the entire 50 states including Canada and Mexico, and she loved genealogy and family history. She was the last remaining teacher of the two-room old Paulette School. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by husband, Karl C. Smith; brothers, Joseph C. and Horace O. Houser; and two beloved friends whom she considered to be her sisters, Alberta Chittum and Betty Edmondson. Survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Mary (Billy) Greenlee, Elizabeth (Tommy) Buck, Katherine “Irene” (Danny) Wilkerson; sons, James Allen and John Berry Smith; grandchildren, Matthew Greenlee, Christopher and Corey Buck, Samantha and Sarah Wilkerson; great grandson, Tyler Greenlee; step-granddaughter, April (Shaun) Graves; step-great grandchildren, Gavin, Caiden, Braylon, Shaylen and Tealynn Graves. Pauline is also survived by two precious friends – her beloved sister-in-law, Margie Houser and June Russell; nephews, Steve (Marilyn) and Gary Houser; special niece, Janet (Jim) Calloway; cousin, Aubrey Stooksbury of Atlanta, Georgia; and several other nephews, nieces, and cousins. The family wished to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. James Hurst, Dr. Fred Hurst, the entire staff at Tennova Residential Hospice, and Willow Ridge Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center for the loving care that was given to their mother. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Union County Senior Citizens Center, P.O. Box 387, Maynardville, TN 37807 or Tennova Residential Hospice, 7447 Andersonville Pike, Knoxville, TN 37938. The family will receive friends 5:00 – 8:00 pm Saturday at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel with funeral service to follow, Pastor Jody Winstead and Willie B. Nicely officiating. Active pallbearers will be grandsons and other family members. Honorary pallbearers: Bill Corum, R.L. Jones, Lowell A. Mattheson, Sr. and Deacons of Milan Baptist Church. Family and friends will meet 1:45 pm Sunday at Pleasant View Cemetery, Maynardville for 2:00 pm interment.
