Ralph Thomas Sweat

Ralph Thomas Sweat, age 87, went to be with Jesus on September 4, 2021 at home surrounded by his family. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Ralph fought a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s for 13 years and remained strong and determined throughout. He was loved by so many for his loving and giving heart, for his love for the Lord, his funny one liners and his love for his family. Preceded in death by parents Jess E. Sweat and Callie Viola Sweat, first wife and mother of his children Shirley Wallace Sweat, second wife Barbara Summers Sweat, daughter Cindy Lee McDevitt, brother Maxie Sweat, and grandson Wally Lowery. Survived by children Craig Sweat and wife Becky, Kim Henley, and Chris Sweat, step-children Jay Summers, Cindy Border, Rex Summers, and Todd Summers, grandchildren Jeff Auer, Corey Tucker, Kristi Tucker, Heather McDevitt, Jessica Sweat, Savannah Sweat, and Tommy Sweat, great-grandchildren Baylee, Tycen, Josh, Greycen, Logan, and Addycen, siblings Margaret Williams and Eddie Sweat, sister-in-law Linda Miller, caregivers Brenda Claiborne, Sue Drinnon, Judy Hopson, and Carole Woods. Family will receive friends 5:00-7:00pm Saturday, September 11, 2021, at Salem Baptist Church with service to follow at 7:00pm, Rev. John Holland officiating. Family and friends will meet 12:45pm Sunday, September 12, 2021, at Lynnhurst Cemetery for a 1:00pm interment. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Salem Baptist Church in Ralph’s memory.
