Philip Winkle Daniel

Philip Winkle Daniel, age 91, of Knoxville, TN, passed away peacefully, Saturday March 8, 2014, at Holston Health and Rehabilitation Center with family by his side. He was born June 29, 1922 in Knoxville, TN to Orville Dennis (O.D.) and Caroline Winkle Daniel. After graduation from Central High School, Philip joined the United States Navy. He proudly served his country aboard the USS Yorktown CV-10 from 1942 to 1945 in the South Pacific theatre. Upon his return from the war, he married the love of his life, Mona Geraldine (Gerry) Daniel (Skeen). Together they had three sons, Larry, Stanley and Jeral all of Knoxville. Philip was a member of Alice Bell Baptist Church and enjoyed a long career with Robertshaw Controls. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His life was one of devotion to God, his family and country. Philip is preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Carrie Daniel; wife of forty three years, Gerry Daniel; brother, Kenneth Daniel; and sisters Bertha Underwood (Daniel) and Orpha Hopson (Daniel); and son Jeral Daniel. He leaves behind his sons, Larry Daniel and Stanley Daniel (Teresa); daughter-in-law, Adeline; eight grandchildren,Brian, Chris, Matthew, Emily, Philip, Craig, Angel, Kevin; six great grandchildren ,Cohen, Annabeth, Garland Kay, Cotton, Reid, Case; sister, Martha Ann Thompson (Daniel) and husband Roscoe and a host of extended family and friends from his 91 years of life - all of whom he cared for deeply. A special thank you is offered to his caregivers at Holston Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was very grateful for the help and kind assistance you provided. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Mynatt's Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel with a service to follow at 7:00 pm, with Reverend Toby Everett officiating. Family and friends will meet 10:45 am, Wednesday, at Greenwood Cemetery for Interment at 11:00 am with full military honors by the US Armed Forces Honor Guards. Philip's grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
