Perry Lee Scott, 91, embarked on his final journey home on February 18, 2025, in Knoxville, Tennessee, with the same grace and determination that marked his remarkable life. Born March 10, 1933, in Celina, Tennessee, to John William "Will" Scott and Dovie Dee Arms Scott, Perry's story is one of love, dedication, and the joy of living life to its fullest.
For 72 beautiful years, Perry shared his life with his beloved Mary (Cricket) Hershel Arms, whom he married on December 12, 1952, in Clay County, Tennessee. Their love story, which began in the hills of Tennessee, continued until the end when he was ready to be reunited with his beloved. Perry's final words to his children were, "Your mom is coming to get me" – a testament to a love that transcends even death itself and softens the blow of loss, knowing he would be with her again.
Perry was most known for his dedication to fitness and health. Well into his 90s, he was a fixture at his local gym, inspiring everyone. His morning workouts were not just exercise; they were a celebration of life as he inspired all who knew him.
A passionate NASCAR enthusiast, his extensive collection of NASCAR memorabilia and the saying, "Raise Hell and Praise Dale," perfectly captured his zest for life and his ability to find joy in every moment.
Perry came from a loving family of twelve siblings, whose bonds helped shape the man he became. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings (Will Aubrey "Bill" Scott, Howard Scott, Juanita Blakley, Estus Odean Scott, Geneva Scott, Delia Mae Scott, Franklin D. Sylvester Scott, Beatrice Jualdean Tinsley, Zula Alberta Davis, Wayford Earl Scott, and Betty Faye McLearran), their influence on his character and values lives on through the generations he leaves behind.
Perry's legacy continues through his loving family: daughter Brenda Lee Gresham and son-in-law Jerry Wayne Gresham; son Danny Lane Scott and daughter-in-law Nancee Scott; grandchildren Frankie Gresham his wife Kelsey Gresham, Jennifer McClelland her husband Chris McClelland, Brittney Williamson her husband Chris Williamson, Jacob Roach, and Margaret Roach-Scalf; and great-grandchildren Nico Almeida-Gresham, Mary Collins Gresham, Carson Wayne Williamson, Maxwell Quinn Gresham, and Harmony A'rie McClelland.
Perry Lee Scott lived as he died – with grace, strength, and faith in love. His reunion with his beloved Mary (Cricket) marks not an ending but a beautiful new chapter in their eternal love story. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him and in the lives he touched with his genuine spirit, infectious smile, and dedication to living life to its fullest.
