Paul Edwin Byerley, 86, passed away in Maynardville on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017. Paul grew up on a retail dairy farm, run by his parents and grandparents, on Little Valley Road in Blaine, Grainger County. He was a member of Mouth of Richland Baptist Church. After graduating from Rutledge High School, he earned a B.S. and M.S. in agricultural education from UT, then came to Union County where he worked 44 years as teacher, FFA adviser and administrator at Horace Maynard High School. Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Bridges Byerley, father William Thomas Byerley, mother, Mary Ruth Hamilton Byerley, and brothers-in-law Franklin Bridges, Gerald and Carl Jerome Woods. He is survived by: wife, Wanda Cox Byerley; brother, Bill J. Byerley and Linda Denton; daughters and their families: Lisa and Jeff Gary, Holly Anne Gary and Paul E. Gary; Lori and James Rose, Sarah Rose and Nikki Lemons; Paula and Donnie Holman, Grant and Rachel Holman and Estie Caroline Holman. Stepsons and wives: Everett Lynn and Ivy Cox and Gregory Allen and Shirley Cox, and their children: Angela, Anna, Adam, Laura, Melissa and Jesse. Pallbearers: David Coppock, Wayne Ellison, John Fugate, John Henderson, Rick Keck, Robert Loy, Steve Massengill and Charles Tolliver. Honorary pallbearers: Linda Baxter, Dwain Burke, Carlos Carter, Mike Hale, Phillip Johnson, Norman Mitchell and John Todd, Horace Maynard FFA members and officers and all Paul’s UT student teachers. The family will receive friends from 3-7p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 12 at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel, with funeral service to follow at 7 p.m. Officiating the service will be Brother Eddie Thompson with a reading by Jimmy Woods. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13 at Pleasant View Cemetery in Maynardville for an 11 a.m graveside service.
