Oz Lo Olson left this world behind on January 9th, 2025. Born July 5th, 2010 he passed at fourteen years old and is survived by a long list of grieving family members that were lucky enough to love him during his short time here with us:
Big brother Ezekiel Olson, Mother Kara Sparks, Father James Olson, Step-Father Jason Sparks, Valerie, Grandmother Teresa Smith, Gramma Nette, Grandfather Austin Smith, Step-Grandmother Donna Smith, Grandma & Grandpa Olson, Grandma & Grandpa Sparks, Great-Grandmother Judy Simons, Great-Grandmother Lois Olson, Great-Grandmother Tuttle, Aunt Wendi, Uncle Fernando, Aunt Jamie, Aunt Amanda, Uncle Dylan, Cousins Liam & Zoe, Half-brother Dominic, Half-sisters Dagny, Ada, & Cheyenne Olson, Step-siblings Emma, Audrey & Asher Sparks and his beloved Lil’ Kitty.
Oz spent his early childhood in Oregon, including Bend, Wilsonville, and Redmond. He enjoyed snuggling with his family, building forts with his brother, playing at the park, and preparing meals in his toy kitchen.
In 2017, Oz moved to Knoxville when Kara landed her dream job with the corporate headquarters at Regal Cinemas. They packed up their life in Oregon and drove across the country on a weeklong road trip with Gramma Nette. This is where Oz started first grade and met his best friend Trent, and other great friends along the way.
Some of Oz’s favorite things in life were his Lil’ Kitty, playing video games on his VR headset, and watching Monday Mystery Movies with his family. Oz and his brother Zeke worked hard at learning the art of karate together and qualified for their Black Belts on the same day. He also joined the Cross Country team and achieved many great times in his meets. Spending summers with his Dad in Bend he loved camping, hiking and snowmobiling in the winter. Oz’s quiet brilliance was showcased when the family would come together to play board games like Taboo. Oz’s cleverness and quick wit always got the best of them.
Last year, Oz had the opportunity to travel internationally with his mom and brother to meet his cousins in Mexico. There he got to experience ziplining over the jungle, snorkeling in the Cenotes, the beauty of the ancient Mayan ruins, and an amazing time in the sand with the people he loved.
As we remember Oz, the funny beautiful boy he was, we each hold a special memory to embrace and cherish. Though Oz’s life ended too soon, it was rich and full of love, and we will carry him in our hearts and minds as we travel through the journey of life without him.
Oz’s celebration of life will take place Friday, January 17, 2025 from 6:00-8:00PM at Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City Chapel. In lieu of sending flowers to the family they ask that you make a kind donation to Feral Feline Friends of East Tennessee, a place close to Ozzy’s heart where he spent time volunteering to care for cats in need.
