Nellie Pauline Seymour, 95, transitioned from Earth to be in heaven with her Lord on July 28, 2018. She was born March 12, 1923 in Maynardville, TN, and lived most of her life in the Halls community in north Knoxville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Nola Gentry, brother Hubert Gentry, and sisters Evelyn Davis and Ruth Raley. She was also preceded by her husband of 56 years, Rev. James A. (Jimmy) Seymour. She was a faithful companion and supporter of her husband’s bi-vocational pastorate of nine Baptist churches in the area during his 35 years of ministry.
Left to cherish her memory are sons Wayland (Lorene), of Tampa, FL, and David (Dianne) of Pensacola, FL; grandson Michael Seymour, of Sevierville, TN, granddaughters Linda Ramey (Frank), of Little Rock, AR, Beverly Walker (John), of Winston-Salem, NC, Sharon Hessinger, of Tampa, FL, and Kristi Seymour, of Wasilla, AK; great grandsons Taylor Ramey (Emily), Clay Ramey (Morgan), and Bryce Ramey, all of Little Rock, AR, William Walker, of Winston-Salem, NC, and Zachary Hessinger and Austin Hessinger, both of Tampa, FL; great granddaughters Anna Walker(Stephen), of Winston-Salem, NC, and Bailey Ramey, of Little Rock, AR; and great great granddaughter Scarlett Ramey, of Little Rock, AR. Others left who befriended Polly include sister-in-law Ramah Seymour and numerous nephews and nieces.
Nellie Pauline (“Polly”) was a homemaker with great talents. She was always busy, whether cooking, canning, or freezing food, sewing, quilting, gardening, or growing the many flowers in her large yard. She was also a prolific creator of many arrangements of artificial flowers, which she gifted to friends. She often volunteered to make many baby blankets for expectant mothers in need. Her energy seemingly was endless; her husband always said she was the hardest-working person he had ever known.
The family expresses special appreciation to niece Linda Brewer and to neighbors Ken and Kay Rice for their caring efforts on Polly’s behalf as her health began to decline. For the past two years, Polly resided at Elmcroft Senior Living in Halls. The family thanks the employees of Elmcroft for their many acts of dedication and kindness on Polly’s behalf; they could not have been nicer. Also, the nurses at Amedysis Hospice provided great end care for her.
Arrangements are being coordinated by Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel. A celebration service will be held at Mynatt’s on Wednesday, August 1st at 6:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00p.m. The following day, there will be a private family burial service at Milan Baptist Church in Maynardville. Officiating at the services will be Rev. Jody Winstead. Polly was a long-time member of Milan, and her husband once served as pastor there. She will be interred beside her husband in the church cemetery. Online condolences for the family may be left at www.mynattfh.com
