Nelle Edwards

Martha Vernelle (Nelle) Haney Edwards of Giles County and Knoxville, TN, passed away on August 21, 2017 in Knoxville. Mrs. Edwards, 103, was born in Minor Hill, TN, the daughter of Thomas Edward Haney and Jessie Smith Haney. She was predeceased by her husband of almost 33 years, J.B. (Buck) Edwards of Marshall and Giles counties TN. Also predeceasing her was stepmother Ruth Eubank Haney, daughter-in-law Nancy Jo Brownlow Edwards, and her favorite uncle, David Everette (Uncle) Haney, twin brother of her father. She is survived by her son Larry Haney Edwards and wife Linda; granddaughter Laurie Folden and husband Christopher, great grandchildren Carolyn Brugh (Matt), and Joshua Kleppin and great great grandsons Connor and Miles Brugh; granddaughter Lynne Parker and husband Robert; and grandson Brent Edwards and wife Rose, grandson Bryce Edwards, and granddaughter Bailey Edwards. Mrs. Edwards was a beloved teacher in Giles County schools, spending most of her career in the Minor Hill elementary school, but also teaching in Beech Hill, Elkton, and Pulaski elementary schools. One of her greatest joys was watching elementary school students (especially 1st graders) grow in their educational experience and develop into well-educated young people. She was a Sunday School teacher in the Minor Hill Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Pulaski, Elkton Baptist Church, and Wallace Memorial Baptist Church in Knoxville. She was a faithful follower of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was never afraid to share her faith in any way. She had a good life well-lived, and was a joy to be with. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering c/o Wallace Memorial Baptist Church, 701 Merchant Dr., Knoxville TN 37912. The family will receive friends Thursday August 24 6PM – 7:30PM Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel, with a Celebration of Life to follow at 7:30 pm, Rev. Kent Williams officiating. The family will also receive friends at the Carr and Erwin Funeral Home in Pulaski, TN on Saturday August 26, 2017 from 12:30PM until 2:00PM. Family and friends will then meet at Maplewood Cemetery for 2:30PM graveside service.
