Mary Lou Ottinger, age 86, of Powell, passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday, August 5, 2022. She loved the Lord and served Him faithfully from a very young age. She was born April 21, 1936, in Anderson County, TN, then spent her early years living in Tullahoma, TN during WWII before returning to Knoxville with her parents. During this time of her life, she learned the piano from her mother and continued that passion for more than 80 years! She worked for HR Block in her younger years and continued tax work, which she loved, seasonally throughout most of her life. She also worked as the church secretary and pianist at Glenwood Baptist Church for over 30 years. In her spare time, she loved to travel, go fishing with her best friend, Jane Worth, as well as watching UT football and women’s basketball. Eventually, two grandchildren trumped those personal interests and she devoted all her love and energy to those special gifts. Preceded in death by husband, William Houston Ottinger; parents, Vestal O’Dell Sanders and Ruby Johnson Sanders. She is survived by her loving sons, Larry and Gary Ottinger; daughter-in-law, Angie Ottinger; granddaughters, Brenli and Breece Ottinger; several cousins, many friends, loved ones and close friend, John O’Connor. Family will receive friends from 5:00pm until 7:00pm on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel. A graveside service will take place Friday, August 12, 2022 at 11:00am at Lynnhurst Cemetery with Rev. Perry Austin officiating. In lieu of flowers, family is requesting that contributions will be made in Mary’s honor to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Online condolences may be expressed at www.mynattfh.com
