Mary Grubb Hickman, 94, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, January 19 at home with family. She was born on January 26, 1927, in Corryton, TN.
After graduating from Gibbs High School, Mary moved to Washington, DC to work for the FBI. At the end of WWII, she returned home to marry her high school sweetheart, Donald.
Mary later did bookwork for the local IBEW and Holston Methodist Conference.
She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and a current member of Clapps Chapel Methodist. Her faith was always evident and the rock of her life. Mary will be missed for her kindness and positive outlook on life. Her favorite saying was, “Wonders never cease.”
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Donald R. Hickman, parents, Curtis and Luna Grubb, siblings Katherine Bayless, Ralph Grubb, and Wayne Grubb. She is survived by her children, Ray M. Hickman and wife Mysta, Charles R. Hickman and wife Kathy, Sheila Strunk and husband Warren, grandchildren Heather, Halsey and Hunter Hickman, wife Rewa, Matthew Strunk, and great grandchild Avery.
We would like to thank the many friends who helped and loved Mary. Special thanks to UT Hospital for the respect and kindness shown, her friends at Litton’s, Denise Haynes, and “best friend” Karren Logan. Also, niece Audrey Endorf and nephew Gary Bayless.
Family will have graveside service at Clapps Chapel Cemetery on Friday, January 21, 2022. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Clapps Chapel United Methodist Church or Nicholas Gibbs Historical Society, c/o Sonja Collins, 9822 Emory Rd. NE, Corryton, TN 37721-3001.
