Mary Christine Murphy, she went home today, June 17, 2015. Her desire was to Stroll Over Heaven one day and be there for a glorious reunion of loved ones and friends that have gone before her. This matriarch of our family had so much love to give and share. There was always food on the stove whenever you went to visit. She loved her church family at Dante Baptist Church. How she looked forward to each gathering and meal they would prepare. She Loved and enjoyed her friends around the quilting table. She would praise the Lord in songs with her beautiful voice as a member of the Dante Baptist Quartet for more than 20 years. She was born in the mountains of Lee County, VA. Among 10 brothers and sisters. She is preceded in death by her mother Gracie Mae Thomas Brown, father Joe Thomas and step father George Brown. Brothers Clyde, Leonard, Henry Lee, Coy, and Roscoe Thomas. Infant sister Mearleen. Numerous sister in laws and brother in laws. She leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her reunion with loved ones, her best friend and husband of 65 years: George Hobert Murphy. She was very proud of her children and their mates they chose. She loved them as her own: Phillip and Jackie Murphy, David and Kathy Murphy, Carolyn and Barton Phelps and Bobbi and Bob Stanton. One of her greatest joys in life was when her 9 grandchildren came along. Phillip Murphy Jr., David Murphy Jr. (Joann), Stephanie White (Anthony), Lee Murphy (Kristy), Steve Murphy (Becky), Christy Gray (Shannon), Michael Stanton (Tera), Tommy Murphy (Lindsey) and Jamie Stanton Ellis. Very seldom did she “Spare the Rod” with them, but she often “spoiled the child” with her giving heart and gentle touch. You could see her blue eyes sparkle when her Great grandchildren came around, all 20 of them and 2 great-great grandchildren. Special friends Karen Hawks and Mary Baird. Her brothers Wayne, Roy and Gladys Thomas, sisters Anna Goad and Jearleen and Benny Fultz. The family would like to thank Amedysis Hospice and their care givers for the special care given to our family. We would like to thank her special caregiver Pat Queener for every time we called on her. Service will be 7:00pm Friday at Dante Baptist Church. Rev. Lee Murphy officiating. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Family and friends will meet at 10:45am at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens for an 11:00am interment. Family will receive friends 5-7pm Friday at Dante Baptist Church.
