Marie C. Lester Kitts, age 97, born June 9, 1920, the last surviving child of the late James and Leena Tipton Lester. Siblings were James and Ross Lester, Midge Lester and Eloise Satterfield. Ms. Marie passed away peacefully Sunday morning, June 18, 2017, at her home as she had requested. Marie was the widow of Max P. Kitts (2011). They enjoyed a wonderful life together living in the Gibbs Community. Marie and Max were very active in Graveston Baptist Church, where Marie was the oldest member. Ms. Marie retired from Standard Knitting Mills. Had a wonderful sense of humor. Knew the history of Gibbs. She loved life, her church family and friends, telephone buddies that brought her many hours of pleasure and her birds. Survived by sister-in-law, Willie Lester; nieces, Rhonda Satterfield and Susie Hazelwood; nephews, Sidney Lester, Eddie Satterfield, Scottie and David Kitts; neighbors, June and Eul Chauvin, Martha Thompson; special friends, Helen Atkins, Mable Atkins, Betty Maples, Rene Porco: and many others. Much appreciation to Knox County Sheriffs Department SCAN, especially Mike Ramsey, Debbie Campbell and the late Mike Story, who went above and beyond the call of duty for Marie. Our appreciation to Dr. William Broome and staff, also to UT hospice. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Shannon Munsey, her caregiver. Family and friends will meet 10:45am, Tuesday June 20, 2017, at Blaines Chapel Cemetery on Tazewell Pike for a graveside service at 11:00am, with Rev. Mark Kitts officiating. Pallbearers will be Brad Jones, Mike Ramsey, Johnny Hibbitt, John Grigsby, Charlie Wright and Bud Waltman. Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Bowman, Travis Cupp, Jason Satterfield, Kurt Russell, Knox County Sheriffs SCAN, Deacons from Graveston Baptist Church. Marie rest in peace, love June.
