Garrison, Margaret Elizabeth Webb, age 91, of Powell, passed away February 26, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family and caregivers. She was born May 6, 1921 in Knoxville and was a graduate of Old Knoxville High School and attended Knoxville Business College. She was owner and operator of Garrison Electric/ Construction Co. with her late husband Thomas Reed Garrison. Margaret was very active in politics, serving as treasurer to the late Congressman, John J. Duncan and Superintendent of Knox County Schools, Earl Hoffmeister. She enjoyed life and loved everyone, never meeting a stranger. She was known for her “Gift of Gab” and her funny sayings. Her hobbies included playing golf with the Beaver Brook Country Club 9 Holes Women’s Group, bowling on the Tuesday Morning Coffee League, attending UT Football games, visiting and caring for the sick, visiting her home in Florida, playing cards with her friends, singing hymns, playing the piano and organ by ear, and having family get togethers at her home, “Out Powell”. She was a former member of May Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and a lifetime member of Nowetta Garden Club in Powell. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and friend who enjoyed helping and caring for others and was a faithful Christian and longtime member of Glenwood Baptist Church in Powell. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Reed Garrison, daughter Elizabeth Ann (Bootie) Childress, parents Orville Oscar and Bessie Lee May Webb, brothers Orville, Wallace, Cecil, Victor, and O.J. Webb, and sisters, Bessie Taylor and Evelyn Hubbs. Survivors include her pride and joys, daughter and son-in-law Reeda Gail Garrison Miller and Kenneth of Hendersonville, Joseph Wallace Garrison of Florida, Paul Thomas Garrison and Mildred of Knoxville, and devoted and loving daughter Mary Lee Garrison of Knoxville, son-in-law John R. Childress of Knoxville, sisters-in-law Edna Garrison of Knoxville and Kathy Webb of Las Vegas, NV., grandchildren “her boy” Johnny, Mike, Scott, and Chris Childress, Stacy Childress Kent, Mark Miller, Joe, Doug, Tommy, and Rodney Garrison, Angie Martin, Dee Dee Parton, and Wendy Worley. Twenty great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff at Tennova Hospice and her loving “girls”/caregivers Cathy Reichert and Martha Catha and her special neighbors. Grandsons will be serving as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Glenwood Baptist Church. Funeral services will be 2 PM Friday at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel with Pastors Perry Austin and Travis Henderson officiating, interment to follow at Lynnhurst Cemetry. The family will receive friends Thursday 6-8 PM at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City.
